This is the first course in a three course sequence for the Effectively Using the Internet in Education Certificate. The goal of this course is to examine the nature of the Internet and its use in education. We will consider the history of the Internet as a starting point and quickly move to its use as a resource for class activities. We will examine the issues surrounding its use for local classes and as a delivery tool for distant students. In the subsequent courses we will also examine how to develop web-based materials and the larger pedagogical and philosophical issues of Internet use in education.
